The Priority of Prayer

The Priority of Prayer

Why is it difficult to have time to pray? Or is it more that we do not make time to pray? Satan seems to find all kinds of things to keep us occupied so that prayer is more an afterthought than a priority. Is it possible that prayer is important but not most important?

It is true that we do what is most important to us at any given moment. We make choices, moment by moment, that reflect our priorities. If I choose to read the new novel I bought last week rather than read my Bible, at that moment, reading the novel is most important to me. So the excuse, 'I don't have time to pray' doesn't hold water. If you don't have time to pray it is because the other things you chose to do instead of pray were more important to you at that moment.

"Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "What! Could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26: 40-41

"But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers." 1 Peter 4:7

As you yield to Christ-life in you, you will pray. As Jesus lives His life through you, you will live out the priority of prayer. How do I know? Because prayer is a priority to Jesus.

Is prayer a priority to you?
