Serving others

We live in a culture today that knows little of serving others. I don't mean during disasters like Hurricane Katrina or 9/11. People rush to serve in disaster. I'm referring to serving others in our homes and in our churches, in our schools and neighborhoods. Isn't it so much easier to serve people outside our homes than inside? We are more inclined to serve the family across town that lost everything in a house fire than we are to serve our own family members day by day. Do you find you have to remind yourself to "go-the-extra-mile" in serving your family or co-worker or that hard-to-love person at church? I do.

"...through love serve one another." Galatians 5:13

Perhaps today you could pray that God would give you sensitivity to see ways to serve your family and friends in the ordinariness of life. That is my prayer.
