Digging Deeper James 4:4

Thank you to those of you who have offered such words of encouragement to press on in James. Your comments bless me knowing that you are enjoying your time in this book. Honestly, sometimes I can't help but wonder if anyone is reading and gleaning. I hope you are benefiting in your meditation in the Word.

James 4:4
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Commentary
Adulterous people recalls OT prophets who used this language to describe Israel's unfaithfulness to God ...Such people have chosen friendship with the world by imitating worldly ways of thinking and worldly activities, making them enemies of God. It will always be impossible to satisfy the expectations of unbelievers, whose heart are set on this world, ... and at the same time please God...James often alludes to the teaching of Jesus ..., which is not surprising if he was Jesus' earthly brother. Blessings,
Diane
